Body Percussion Ensemble KeKeÇa have created a series of interactive directions via video for children in Liverpool and across the globe, working with their schools to encourage the children to reconnect with each other as they learn from home.
Acknowledging the body as a place of lived experience, audiences will be encouraged to participate in the performances using their own bodies as percussive instruments. Positioning sound as a form of knowledge, KeKeÇa’s practice engages bodies in the state of being present, while the resulting sounds and rhythms invoke histories of movement and migration.
KeKeÇa Tutorials - Participants can learn the basics of body percussion and build on what they know week by week, with new KeKeÇa videos released every Monday. These 5 - 20 minute videos encourage people of all ages to explore mirroring, stomping and clapping along with KeKeÇa. Suitable for all ages.
KeKeÇa Camp - A week long virtual event with live sessions from the KeKeÇa group in Turkey. Booking available soon.
Fluid - KeKeÇa have created a new commission titled Fluid, 2021 for the 11th edition of Liverpool Biennial. It is from this work they will show you the different parts of the body percussion piece. It focuses on being and communicating from no existing language, place or cultural reference.
